Cost recovery implementation statement – Uranium Producers Charge

What's on this page

This cost recovery implementation statement (CRIS) explains how and why the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO) recovers costs from Australian producers of uranium ore concentrate (UOC) for ASNO’s nuclear safeguards and security activities.

The Uranium Producers Charge is imposed on holders of a permit to possess an unlimited quantity of UOC granted under section 13(1)(a) of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation (Safeguards) Act 1987 if, on 1 November in a given financial year:

    • more than 1,000 kilograms of UOC was produced at a processing facility during the previous financial year, and

    • at any time (whether during the previous financial year or earlier) UOC produced at that processing facility was exported.

The CRIS provides financial and non-financial performance information on nuclear safeguards and security activities associated with the production and export of UOC. It also contains financial forecasts for 2023–24 and 3 forward years. ASNO publishes an updated CRIS each financial year.
