Dr Craig Everton is Assistant Secretary Non-Proliferation Technology and Partnerships Branch at the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO).

Craig has over twenty years of experience in the field of non-proliferation. He manages ASNO’s work at the nexus of science, regulation, policy and diplomacy to strengthen frameworks against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. He leads teams responsible for Australia’s delivery of international disarmament efforts, including our obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty; ensuring uranium exports are used exclusively for peaceful purposes; regulating and strengthening international implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention; and ensuring ASNO’s regulatory governance, coordination of regional partnerships and public communication.

Craig served as Section Head in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Safeguards Operations Division A from 2019-2023, managing a team of inspectors and analysts with responsibility for inspections and compliance evaluation for various countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Craig previously held various positions in ASNO from 2004 to 2019. He holds a degree in physics from the Queensland University of Technology, a Masters of Science (MSc) in applied nuclear physics from the University of Melbourne, and a PhD in experimental particle physics from the University of Melbourne.
